Cassidie Carmen Bates (2015)
Cassidie Carmen Bates is an alumni of Da Vinci Charter Academy from the Class of 2015. After graduating, Cassidie attended UC Berkeley and majored in Legal Studies and Public Policy. While at Cal, Cassidie had the opportunity to be a founding member of a non-profit organization that supports survivors of human trafficking in the Bay Area. She spent time studying in Europe and living in the Middle East to conduct research on the Israeli-Palestinean conflict. She now works as the Policy & Advocacy Manager at the Food Bank of Contra Costa & Solano where she advocates for food-security and anti-poverty legislation along with community action. Cassidie is passionate about giving back to Da Vinci by creating a space for alumni to connect with one another and with the school that helped shape us.
Rayna Velasquez (2017)
Rayna Velasquez is a graduate of 2017 and is studying to become a preschool teacher, specializing in race and equity. While at Da Vinci, Rayna was a Restorative Practices Student Practitioner which led her to work as an intern with the Transformative Justice in Education Center at UC Davis after graduation. Since then, she has helped begin the Coalition for Transformative Justice at Solano Community College, and work with other organizations to disrupt and address harm on campus. As Vice President, Rayna is very excited to keep collaborating with fellow alumni to keep the Da Vinci community connected beyond the junior and high school campuses.
Maite Knorr-Evans (2014)
Maite Knorr-Evans is an alumni of Da Vinci Charter Academy from the Class of 2014. Since graduating from the College of Wooster with a degree in Global and International Studies, Maite has worked at the World Resources Institute in Washington DC. At WRI Maite works as a Research Analyst in the Forest Program on an initiative that aims to reduce illegal logging and the associated trade. Maite enjoys podcasts, comedy, hanging out with her friends, and ranting about politics. Maite sees DVAN as an important tool to connect alumni with the great work happening at Da Vinci and is excited to give back to a place and community that gave her so much.
Kendra Norton (2010)
Kendra Norton is the treasurer of the DVAN board. They are a graduate of the class of 2010. Currently, they spend their days wrangling middle schoolers at Da Vinci Jr. High, where they teach both Leadership and Study Skills and serve as co-student activities director. They feel incredibly lucky to be able to teach at the same amazing school that inspired their love for education and innovative pedagogies. They are passionate about DVAN as a vehicle for connecting alumni to current students, as a medium for further continuing the Da Vinci tradition of authenticity and experiential learning. In their free time, they love spending time with their dog, Miko, and their husband, Corin. They love to explore the outdoors, travel, dabbling in all of the arts, and enjoying all things nerdery.
Nicola Williams (2010)
Outreach & Events Coordinator
Nicky Williams is an alumni from Da Vinci Charter Academy, Class of 2010. After graduating, Nicky studied History at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. She then worked in Rome, London and New York City, before settling back in California to get her teaching credential, from UC Davis. Nicky taught at Da Vinci for one year while she was completing her studies, and now works in Monterey, CA, where she teaches Ethnic Studies, US History and AVID. Nicky is excited to continue giving back to Da Vinci as the Outreach and Events Coordinator.
Beau Runyan (2011)
Chief Technology Officer
Beau Runyan graduated from Da Vinci High School is 2011 where he ventured off to Southern California working at Warner Bros. Studios. After realizing Hollywood was not the life for him he moved back to Davis, California in 2016 where he became a Paraeducator for Da Vinci! After 4 years of empowering Special Education Students he moved to Davis Joint Unified School District as an Instructional Technology Specialist. Currently he is DJUSD's Digital Instruction Administrator building the bridge between Instruction and the Technology Department. In Beau's free time he loves to play with his dog, visit the California foothills with his Boyfriend and entertain himself in some video games.
Da Vinci Principal
Tyler Millsap is in his fourth year as Principal of Da Vinci Charter Academy and spent the previous nine years as a Da Vinci English and Social Studies Teacher. Tyler is passionate about innovative, student-centered learning and the inclusive DVCA community. He lives with his wife, Kate, a cardiology nurse, and his daughter, Maya, who is two and one-half years old. Tyler's hope for DVAN is to create a place where DV Alumni can connect and reconnect with each other and also hopes to create opportunities for DV Alumni to give back to their alma mater.
